Bridging Sectors for a Sustainable Future: SNUG Project at Synergy Days 2026

At first glance, the connection between sustainable building materials and agricultural innovation might seem unexpected. While the SNUG Project is dedicated to reshaping the construction sector and advancing the transition to Zero-Emission Buildings (ZEBs), sustainability does not exist in silos. The circular economy, resource optimization, and data-driven deployment are shared challenges uniting industries across Europe.

On 20–21 October 2026, SNUG joined over 30 EU-funded initiatives in Kilkenny, Ireland, for Synergy Days 2026 – the flagship event organized by SmartAgriHubs bringing together key actors driving digital innovation, sustainability, and cross-sector resilience under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Uniting on Stand 24: Agritech & Circular Economy

Represented by project partner Raquel Amaral from F6S Innovation, SNUG was showcased at Stand 24, dedicated to Agritech & Circular Economy projects.

F6S Innovation brought together eight pioneering EU-funded initiatives addressing diverse facets of the European green transition:

By co-locating these projects, the stand demonstrated the vital cross-pollination between raw material production, bio-based inputs, and the built environment.

Why Cross-Sector Synergies Matter for SNUG

While agrifood focuses on biological cycles, crop production, and land health, the construction industry accounts for roughly 50% of all extracted materials and over a third of the EU’s waste generation. Developing bio-based insulation materials, circular cascading methodologies, and low-embodied-carbon building products relies on strong, direct ties with agriculture and rural supply networks.

Throughout the conference, key panel sessions and exhibition discussions highlighted two central themes:

  1. Shaping Policy as a Unified Hub: Moving away from fragmented, isolated project outputs toward collective European policy influence.
  2. Bridging the “Valley of Death”: Overcoming the gap between laboratory testing and commercial, on-the-ground adoption – ensuring that digital tools and sustainable materials reach everyday practice.

Engaging with agritech and digital innovation leaders provided valuable perspectives on tracing raw material streams, integrating regional supply chains, and aligning digital tracking tools with sustainability metrics.

Looking Ahead

Collaborating with fellow initiatives demonstrated that whether the final application is an agricultural field or an energy-efficient building envelope, our shared goal is the same: deploying practical, circular solutions that slash European emissions.

A special thank you to everyone who visited Stand 24 to exchange ideas, and a warm shoutout to our fellow projects – AYUMI, PaluWise, EcoScape, AgRimate, HarWASTing, Ecopesia, and NOSTRADAMUS Project – for an inspiring joint showcase.
